
The President of Madeira Island, Miguel Albuquerque, thanked this distinction and said that it’s very important that Madeira applied the Levadas to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, as it is a tribute to the work and history of the island, “which well defines the fibre and the history of Madeira.”

Was the Regional Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources and the Regional Directorate of Forestry and Conservation that coordinated the presence at this event. The region tried to simulate a “Levada” (irrigation channel) in the exhibition and also promote the candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage Site.
